One of the most memorable times of the year is the holiday season, whether Christmas or the Thanksgiving holiday season and people look forward to this time not just because it heralds a time off work, but because it is a time of gift-giving. Gift-giving makes the holiday season memorable because of the best ways that people show each other that they mean something to each other is in giving gifts. In this time, the economists say there is an economic boom more so in the retail section because there is a great demand for gifts as people buy not only for their own family members but for friends and acquaintances. Rarely do people buy and send or give gifts in their original form but what makes gift-giving such a memorable event is because of the element of surprise. No one sends a gift in its original wrapping but people buy wrapping paper to cover and wrap the gift. So as much as there is a spike in the sale of gifts, there is also an equal demand for papers to wrap. So why do people use papers to wrap gifts?
Gift wrapping is a tradition that started way back. As long as man has been giving gifts, he has been wrapping them. In the medieval times, gifts were usually just exchanged the way they are but as time progressed, people found that the element of surprise is very potent. One of the reason why gifts are wrapped is for beauty. Designer wrapping paper, which in most cases comes together with colorful ribbons, tape and other cards makes a gift extremely attractive. Today most convenient stores, department stores and other major retailers sell gift items and have a gift section of the store. The section is full of colorful paper, ribbons, cards, tape and scissors. In short, it contains everything that pertains to buying and wrapping gifts. Wrapping a gift therefore makes it more attractive to look at than its original wrapper.
Wrapping a gift also creates an element of surprise. It is that anticipation when one is unwrapping the gift that makes the moment memorable. Sometimes, people even change the box in which the gift is wrapped to make the element of surprise even more. Children are especially excited about surprises and that is why many wrappers are so colorful and appealing.
Another reason why wrappers are popular is because they protect the gift especially if it is in transit. While it is easy to send gifts to our family members who live with us, sometimes those family members or friends do not live with us and there is the necessity to mail the gift. In that an event, it needs to be wrapped well so that the recipient will know that what they are receiving is a gift. Sometimes parcel couriers are very rough and a gift can be damaged in the process of it is not carefully wrapped. That is what makes gift wrapping popular and that is why wrappers are popular.
